FREE HAGGADAH | Let's Celebrate Passover!

"In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight is the LORD's Passover.  The Festival of Unleavened Bread to the LORD is on the fifteenth day of the same month. For seven days you must eat unleavened bread. On the first day you are to hold a sacred assembly; you are not to do any daily work. You are to present a fire offering to the LORD for seven days. On the seventh day there will be a sacred assembly; you must not do any daily work." Leviticus 23:5

Prepare

First things first! Let's plan our celebration.

Passover 2021 begins at twilight
Saturday,
 March 27
and the Feast of Unleavened Bread ends at twilight
Sunday,
April 4

A great resource for the Hebraic dates and weekly parsha readings is hebcal.com

The Scriptures reveal several aspects of this Mo'ed, "appointed time" of the LORD:
  • The 14th day of the month is the LORD's Passover
  • Passover is a special Sabbath on which no daily work is to be done
  • Passover is a special Sabbath for sacred assembly (may be in your home)
  • No bread or products with leaven (yeast) may be eaten, but unleavened bread must be eaten
  • The 15th day of the month begins the 7 day Festival of Unleavened Bread
  • For 7 days no leaven may be eaten, and unleavened bread (matza) is to be eaten
  • We are NOT to present a "fire offering to the LORD" as there is no priesthood or Temple
  • The Passover/Unleavened Bread holiday is closed by another special Sabbath
Will you keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread? This takes planning!

Observant Jewish families will be cleaning their homes of every trace of yeast, as well as dust. It is suspected this ancient tradition is the origin of "spring cleaning!"

Boxes of Matzo and matzo meal products/foods without yeast will need to be purchased for the Passover Seder (traditional dinner) and subsequent eight days of observance.

It may sound impossible, but there are a plethora of wonderful recipes now available on the web utilizing matzo, matzo meal, matzo starch noodles, etc! One doesn't need to be nearly as afflicted by the "Bread of Affliction" anymore! This may be missing the point of the observance, depending how extravagant one gets in replacing yeasted items!

Seder ~ Traditional Passover Dinner
The Sequence and Elements of the Seder ("Say-der")
The traditional Passover Meal consists of fifteen steps and specific elements. Each is partaken in order, accompanied with blessings, narrative, and biblical passages to accomplish "the telling" ~ the imparting of the story of God's miracles, faithfulness, and lovingkindness in the Exodus story, from generation to generation.

The Haggadah, therefore is one of the most important elements. The word Haggadah means "the telling," and it lays out the order of the Passover Seder, containing blessings, songs, narratives, Scripture and commentary. Consider it a helpful travel guide. The Haggadah will assist us on our journey, setting our course to navigate through all the important avenues of experience and understanding, and adding commentary and language helps along the way!
