Kristallnacht | The Night of Broken Glass

KRISTALLNACHT
The Night of Broken Glass
9 NOVEMBER 1938
"First set fire to their synagogues or schools and bury and cover with dirt whatever will not burn, so that no man will ever again see a stone or cinder of them. This is to be done in honor of our Lord and of Christendom, so that God might see that we are Christians..."
Martin Luther (1543)
An unimaginable, massive attack on the Jewish People, their synagogues, and Jewish businesses was coordinated throughout the German Reich on the night of November 9, 1938, and continued over the next few days.

Known as Kristallnacht, or The Night of Broken Glass, the excuse for terror against the entirety of the German Jewish population was a reprisal for the shooting of a member of the German Embassy staff in Paris by a 17 year old Jewish youth. Herschel Grynszpan, shot and killed the German staffer for the poor treatment his father and family suffered at the hands of the Nazi regime in Germany.

More than 900 synagogues were burned, approximately 100 Jews were murdered, 7,000 businesses destroyed, and 30,000 Jewish men were sent to concentration camps by the time the Nazi Storm Troopers ended their siege.
A U.S official in Leipzig described what he saw of the atrocities: "The insatiably sadistic perpetrators threw many of the trembling inmates into a small stream that flows through the zoological park, commanding horrified spectators to spit at them, defile them with mud and jeer at their plight."
The Holocaust, the Shoah, had officially begun.

The following day Goebbels announced, "We shed not a tear for them [the Jews.]"

Regarding the destruction of synagogues, he said, "They stood in the way long enough. We can use the space made free more usefully than as Jewish fortresses."

Within one week of "Kristallnacht" the Nazi government began to totally remove the Jewish People from ever sector of German public life

Immediately, the Nazis circulated a letter declaring that Jewish businesses could not be reopened unless they were to be managed by non-Jews.

Jewish children were barred from attending school by November 15th.

Then the Nazis issued the "Decree on Eliminating the Jews from German Economic Life," prohibiting Jews from selling goods or providing services anywhere, from engaging in crafts work, from serving as the managers of any firms, and from being members of cooperatives.

Most sadistic and grievous, the Nazis determined that the Jews should be liable for the damages caused during "Kristallnacht."

"...they are the bearers of God’s word. And deep down in our hearts we hate them for it. For we hate God and do not want to follow His Law."
Pierre van Paassen, Zionist and uniquely insightful European war correspondent recalls the words of a visiting Huguenot minister to his family home in Holland following a prayer meeting for the return of the People of Israel to their Holy Land. Caspar Daubenton’s words carried the clear-sighted edge of the prophetic to fifteen year old Pierre in 1910, who would witness their unfolding in the decades to come.
There is,” he said, “a mystery about the people of the Jews, a mystery which both attracts and repels us. Sometimes I think,” he went on, “that the mystery resides in the fact that they, unconsciously perhaps, as a people, are the bearers of God’s word. We know they are... We feel they are. And deep down in our hearts we hate them for it. For we hate God and do not want to follow His Law. In their mere presence there lies always, I find, a subtle, often unavowed and undefinable challenge to us, something of a reproof, an accusation. They remind us of something of which we do not like to be reminded.
I think,” he said, “that there sits the core of the secret of Jewish persecution in Christian lands.”
And then he went on to speak about the dread possibility of that mentally reserved hatred awaking some day in Europe. “Some incident, insignificant in itself,” I remember him saying “may very well bring it into the open. Not long ago we saw it come snarling to the surface with Dreyfus affair in a country as civilized as France. Who knows when and where it will break out again? And so long as that hatred persists in our hearts,” he said gravely, “the Jews are not safe anywhere, not in Russia, not in Germany, not in Holland, or in that far-off America to which so many of them are fleeing these days from Russia.”

Clashes Erupt in Berlin Amid Kristallnacht Events
NEWS 09 November 2014 21:27
Clashes and arrests marred the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, as several hundred left-wing activists met far-rights in the city center. The latter were rallying in commemoration of the 1938 Kristallnacht Nazi attacks against Jews.

On Sunday, left-wing activists held a non-sanctioned demonstration near the capital’s Alexanderplatz train station against the fall of the Berlin Wall, while most Berliners were commemorating the 25th anniversary of the event. RTNews
WHOM DO YOU SERVE?

How deeply tragic that such a legacy of hatred has been wrought through the ages by those claiming the Name of the Author of Love. Lies, malice, hatred, destruction, and murder ... these are the unmistakeable fingerprints of the enemy of life--not only the Jewish People. He is the enemy even of those who serve him. Their end will be destruction, for he can only provide death and destruction.

Why have the Jewish People been the target throughout time? They stand as a bastion against his lies. Even in unbelief, their existence PROVES the promises of the Bible and the existence of the Almighty!

Why do so-called Christians turn against the Jewish People? God alone knows. For they ARE HOLY, set apart, for His Divine purposes! This is HIS sovereign choice! Do we respect His sovereignty? Is He not our King?

Perhaps there is a bit of what Pierre van Paassen said in the dynamic as well ...
we don't like to be reminded of His Law ...
Paul made it clear: "God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew." (Romans 11:2)
If God has not rejected His people, Israel, then who is one serving when they defy the Master of the Universe and reject them?
Pray for the peace (wholeness, well-being) of Jerusalem! (Psalm 122:6)
Blessings and Love in Messiah,
Michael and Sarah Lynn
